Who is Coach Chijo?

Coaching for Portland Volleyball Club (PVC)

volleyball coach chijo in gym smilingChijo Takeda is entering his 17th year coaching for Portland Volleyball Club. He has coached 12U, 14U and 16U at PVC. Throughout his 30-year coaching career, he has provided quality skill instruction to club and high school teams while encouraging athletes to enjoy the game of volleyball.

Club Volleyball Teams

Under Chijo’s guidance, the Portland Volleyball Club 12-1 Pink team were the 2011, 2012 and 2015 CEVA Regional 12U Gold Champions and were CEVA Regional Gold Division finalists for the previous five years. In 2011 and 2010, his teams played in the USA Volleyball Girls’ Junior National Championships (Atlanta, Reno). They also finished as a champion, finalist, or division winner at the Junior National Championships, Bay View Classic, Volleyball Festival, NCVA Cal Finals, Willamette Volleyball Classic, and NW Juniors Memorial Day Classic. Chijo won the PVC Coach of the Year award in 2010.

High School Volleyball Coaching

In the past Chijo was head coach at Wilsonville High School and La Salle Prep and varsity assistant at Tualatin High School where he started his coaching career in 1993. He led Wilsonville to a co-league championship in his first year, a league championship in his second—the first outright league title in school history, and an undefeated league title in his third. He also guided the team to the OSAA 5A Volleyball State Championship to finish 4th in 2007 and 3rd in 2006—the highest tournament finish in school history. Meanwhile, Chijo won the 5A Coach of the Year award for two consecutive seasons.
